Is the Genting Wampanoag Taunton casino marriage on the rocks?

We all knew this was a shotgun wedding anyway, so this should be no surprise.  But, according to Reel Wamps, word is out in Mashpee - the rocky marriage between the Mashpee Wampanoag and their financiers -  Malaysian gambling syndicate Genting - may be heading for divorce court.  And Genting may be heading North to Suffolk Downs, greener pastures and a more competent partner for their gaming plans in the Bay State.

Reel Wamps tells us that Genting has informed Cedric Cromwell and the Mashpee Wampanoag Council that they are exploring options elsewhere in Massachusetts.  The reason, according to Reel Wamps, is incompetence and inability of the Council to execute the simplest of plans that complies with the law. As a result, Cromwell and crew are scrambling and the July 31st deadline for demonstrating they can pull this off AND get federal approval isn't looking good.

In addition to demonstrating that they can get land in trust in Taunton, the Tribe's compact with the state requires that they divulge and detail their financial obligations - rumored to be in the tens of millions already to Genting - and plans to finance their casino project in Taunton.  Without Genting money Taunton's Wampa World casino hasn't much hope unless Trusting Tom Hoye has a few hundred million lying about to invest.

  1. Of course the brilliant Mayor and his team of experts hasn't been informed by Cedric Cromwell of this new development - because their agreement with the Tribe is one-sided and weak. If the Tribe has any material information specific to their ability to deliver and finance their end of the casino contract they should immediately inform Taunton. But so far, just like in Middleboro where Cedric never bothered to tell his "partners" there that the feds rejected his application for LIT. The City should be calling Cromwell to demand he disclose anything Genting has told him about their seeking to develop a casino elsewhere - as the state won't give two licenses to the same group.

  2. Cromwell & Co. must be defecating concrete blocks. Who will be first with the tar and feathers, Tribe members or Tauntonians? Not to mention the pistol-packing Malaysians. The coming month is going to be a scorcher.

  3. Rumor has it a tribal council member had a heart attack. Ain't had a chance to find out if its true. Stress will do that. I can smell the nervous sweat from here.

  4. Wishing no one physical or health harm, but sometimes the gods and Karma will send you a message when you've been bad... If what goes around comes around then Cedric is in for a fair amount of suffering for his misdeeds. A jail cell would be more appropriate though than a hospital bed.

  5. No casino is a good casino. I was always intrigued by native american history, the mashpees ruined that for me. I hope they find something more positive to do with their time. After all, they're descendants of "indians", not a bunch of squantos living in wigwams as CC, Glen Marshall and co. would have us believe.Good luck.

    1. 100% agreement, the real wamps will tell you that many people around Mashpee are just bad actors and are looking to get a big old handout from the casino. They wear costumes and have most of the white folk tricked, not this one.

    2. Interesting that we have a non-native and a native stuck on the same bigotry circle! “squantos” wow can you amp up the bigotry quotient any higher!!!

As a Wampanoag, I see your comments as foolish and offensive, “no casino is a good casino” is this the same as “a dead Indian is a good Indian”, not very clever of you and possibly insulting.

For a tribal member to approve of this is most disturbing with a 100% agreement no less, Amazing. Our time is our own as it always will be with or without your approval.

Right now though we are interested in the economic growth thing, that it bothers your digestion is not a concern at all.

How can you be intrigued about our history??? My money is on you never read anything about us, except maybe if it was about “squantos, living in Wigwams”. This tells me all I need to know about how much you are interested in our history. Some things simply never change, and it is sad that one of my own thinks this is okay!

  8. Travel around the country and you will see nothing but empty casinos, and people all of a sudden are going to Taunton?
All the money is near in the Boston area, how can this casino compete with public transportation in and around the city.
"High end shops"? what does that mean, "we do not accept EBT"?

By the way, how many Wampanoags are actually Native Americans? CC is from Dorchester and has never lived in Mashpee, how is this not being looked into? Asian gangsters, no licensing fee, people in Taunton voted for this, are you kidding me?
